ZIU: National Exam Results Platform (GovTech)
ZIU is a government digital service created for the Ministry of Education, used by hundreds of thousands of candidates seeking their eighth-grade and matura exam results. The system had to support very high traffic during publication peaks, remain extremely simple to use, and comply with strict WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards
UX Designer
2018-2019
ZIU is a government digital service built to give students instant, secure access to their exam results. Every year, the platform experiences massive traffic spikes the moment results are published — which means the experience must be fast, simple and fail-proof for users across the entire country.
My role was to design the UX in a way that makes advanced exam data easy to understand, while keeping the interface lightweight and resource-efficient. I focused on clarity, accessibility and emotional neutrality, crucial for a system used in a high-stress, high-stakes context.
During user testing, we discovered that early visual concepts introduced unnecessary noise and low-contrast colours, leading to a sense of disorientation. I redesigned the system toward a minimalist, accessible visual language, applying WCAG 2.0 standards and introducing a high-contrast mode for visually impaired users.
To avoid overwhelming users, I leveraged progressive disclosure, surfacing only the information needed at each step and removing all unnecessary friction.
I also ensured the platform works perfectly on all devices through responsive and adaptive design, knowing the majority of students would access ZIU on mobile right after results drop.
This project was fundamentally about storytelling with data, taking one of the most important moments in a student’s life and making it clear, calm and understandable, even under national-level load.
